Stellantis – The Origin
Stellantis was founded from the merging of France’s PSA and Italian-American carmaker Fiat Chrysler. Its brands include Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat, Chrysler, Jeep, Ram, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, and others.
The STLA Small will offer 300 miles of range, replacing Stellanti’s current CMP platform for compact and small cars, while the STLA Medium will offer 440 miles of range, replacing the STLA EMP2 platform, designed for compact and small cars. The largest off-road vehicle for the US market will be a muscle car for off-road vehicles. The company says eight vehicles will be built and the StLA Large will hit the market in the next 3-5 years, with the company aiming for 43 miles / kWh or 69 km / kWh for electric vehicles in the US.
The last of the platforms, the STLA frame, offers up to 500 miles of range and is best suited for body-on-frame vehicles such as pickup trucks, large SUVs, and commercial vehicles. STLA Large will also have a range of 500 miles and will be designed for high-end midsize and large cars. Last in line, STLA Medium will have a battery pack of 159-200 kWh with a range of 800 km.
Vehicles based on STLA will also benefit from software updates over time to improve functionality. During the presentation, it was also confirmed that 8 new models will be based on the new STLA-Large architecture, which will debut in 2026. The new architecture is one of four modular electrical architectures that Stellantis will use for its future models in addition to the STLA Small, STLA Medium, and STLA Frame.
While the previous three STLA platforms had a unibody design, the StLA Frame can accommodate battery packs between 159 and 200 kWh for a range of up to 800 km, and the body-on-frame solution will be used for large pick-ups and commercial vehicles including the All-electric Ram 1500, which is expected to launch in 2024.
Vehicles based on the larger platform will have a length of 4.70-5.40 m and a width of 19.0-20.3 m. The battery capacity will range from 101 kWh to 118 kWh and offer a range of 800 km on a single charge. The four platforms will offer battery capacities from 37 kWh to over 200 kWh.
The automaker said the expected range is 500 miles on a fully charged platform, 440 miles on the medium-sized platform, and 300 miles for vehicles that drive on the smaller platforms. In the presentation to Tesla, Tesla confirmed that eight vehicles based on STLA and larger models will hit the market in the next three to five years with a higher chance of success.
Stellantis & Tesla
Tesla said that it plans to have every platform in-house in an industry-leading battery technology company that is willing to take a serious look at the solid-state battery technology, the holy grail of electric batteries.
While the company did not go into detail, examples of possible vehicles were shown including medium-size Ram trucks, Jeep SUVs, Chrysler electric crossovers, Jeep Wagoneers, and Dodge electric muscle cars, to name a few. The platform strategy was explained in detail during the design-related presentation, with Chief Design Officer Ralph Gilles referring to the STLA Large platform.
Little has been revealed about which vehicles will be built on StLA Small and Medium platforms, but executives have suggested that the STLA Framework Platform will be the base for Ram trucks and commercial vehicles.
Stellantis Launch & Impact
The launch of STLA platform marks the end of the Alfa Romeo Giorgio platform that supports Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio D models. The STLA Large platform will bring eight vehicles on special surfaces to market by 2026, according to Chief Development Officer Ralph Gilles. Gilles also pointed out that the platform will point to long-range luxury sedans that will capture the muscle car heart of the market, the CUV heart of the market, SUV-capable Jeeps, all-terrain whitespace vehicles, and new medium trucks.
As part of its electrification strategy, Stellantis plans to offer four new platforms for battery-electric vehicles. Stellantis is an automaker with a portfolio of 14 brands including Ford, Ram, Peugeot, and Citroen. The Alfa Romeo Giorgio platform, on which the models are based Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio D-segment, does not support electrification which is the reason for the removal of two models after a short life span. Stellantis plans to develop its future models on the STLA platform for various makes and vehicle segments.
All about Stellantis
Stellantis, the automaker with a portfolio of 14 brands including Jeep, Ram, Peugeot, and Citroen unveiled its new EV strategy on Thursday morning and released a roadmap it says will lead to class-leading electric vehicles in all segments, from small city cars to panel vans and commercial vehicles.
Stellantis NV, the multinational car manufacturer based in the Netherlands, is founded recently in 2021 on the basis of a cross-border merger between Italian-American conglomerate Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the French PSA Group. The merger with the French automaker Renault was approved by the shareholders of Fiat Chrysler, FCA, and Renault on 4 January 2021 and will be completed on 16 January 2021.
Tavares revealed the capabilities of the STLA platform and hinted that it will mark the end of reach anxiety for customers. The STLA will be designed to provide no less than a number of the platforms mentioned above to address the range anxiety of electrified vehicles. The entry-level products StLA small, B and C will have a range of more than 500 km, the StLA medium more than 700 km, and the StLA large more than 800 km.
Stellantis & Stock Market
Stellantis is the hot cake in the market, still, we recommend everyone to predict the market and not to make investments blindly. We believe that a better strategy is to buy high-quality investments that you believe in and hold on to.
Since design and development began long before any model was launched and Stellantis does not follow the comic example of the former FCA Group who developed a different product plan every year and ignored the previous one we assume that at least the teaser bears some sort of resemblance to the final product.
